San Gimignano & Siena

To get to San Gimignano and Siena from Florence you don’t have to travel very far, but you will feel as if you have journeyed way back in time.

Our private excursion to San Gimignano & Siena is the best way to see two of the most amazing places in Tuscany.

If you love wine you will be in paradiso, no matter which colour you prefer! The Chianti region around Siena produces world-famous reds and San Gimignano is famous for its white.

Siena is a place that has been almost been untouched by the chaos of modernity. A Medieval city of great power, its landmarks remain today much as they were centuries ago. Narrow, winding streets give way to splendid piazzas and churches that will astound you, for both their beauty and grand scale.

Tradition and history is still deeply felt in the souls and minds of Siena’s citizens. Their pride and passion for the Palio — the crazy bareback horse race that takes place each summer — is evident in each neighborhood, where banners and shop items bear witness to their team. Equally as important is Santa Caterina, Siena’s patron saint and one of the most influential and significant female figures in the history of the Catholic church. Her life and accomplishments are memorialized all over Siena but the lore comes particularly alive at the basilica of San Domenico where her head and one of her fingers are enshrined.

San Gimignano, while it is as marvelously Medieval as Siena, has a different esthetic. Small and compact, San Gimignano beckons the approaching modern visitor with its many ancient towers that give testimony to its importance during the Middle Ages. Climb one of the towers or walk up to the top of the citadel for breathtaking views of the countryside.

If you like white wine you will be happy to know that the region is famous a light, crisp white — Vernaccia di San Gimignano. We’d be pleased to arrange a wine tasting if you’re interested, and you can sample as much as you like with no worries — your private driver will make sure you arrive safely home!
