Montalcino and Pienza

If you love wine and cheese you will love our private excursion to Montalcino & Pienza!

Montalcino is of course best known for its acclaimed Brunello wine but it is also a handsome hilltop village with sweeping views of the marvelous countryside. Our day begins by visiting the old town centre and its fortress. In the late morning we’ll drive out into the country for a wine tasting at one of the picturesque and respected wineries that produce Brunello, where you will get a full sensory immersion in the magic of this land and its products.

The feature of the afternoon is Pienza. Set amidst the sumptuousness of the Val d’Orcia, Pienza is one of the most romantic places in Tuscany — scenes from The English Patient were shot here — and a cheese-lover’s paradise.

Pienza was also home to Pope Pius II, a humanist during the Renaissance who had the town built to exemplify his progressive town planning ideas. These urban planning concepts, still evident in the historic center, eventually spread throughout Italy and the rest of Europe. We’ll take a walk through the historic center where you’ll see the pope’s house and Pienza’s streets of Luck, Love and Kisses. Be prepared to the seduced by the perfume of pecorino wafting from the many gorgeous cheese shops.
